Gold, jewellery & precious stones — HSN codes with applicable GST rates for 2026.

Pardeep Jha & Associates, Chartered Accountants · Rates as on July 2026
Chapter 71 covers precious metals, gems and jewellery — gold, silver, platinum, diamonds, precious and semi-precious stones, imitation jewellery and articles thereof. Jewellers and bullion traders bill using these codes.
This chapter has its own special low rate structure. Gold, silver and articles of jewellery are taxed at a concessional rate, rough diamonds at a very low rate, and making charges are treated as part of the supply. Because the rates here differ sharply from the standard slabs, always confirm the exact figure in the table below.
Whether you are billing gold ornaments or loose diamonds, use the table to apply the correct HSN code and GST rate.

What is the GST rate on gold jewellery?
Gold and gold jewellery are taxed at a concessional rate (well below the standard slabs), with making charges generally forming part of the taxable value. Confirm the current figure from the rate column.
How is GST charged on making charges?
Making charges are treated as part of the value of the jewellery supply and are taxed accordingly. Many jewellers bill the metal value and making charges together on one line under the jewellery HSN code.
How many digits of the HSN code do I need to put on my invoice?
It depends on your aggregate annual turnover. Businesses with turnover up to ₹5 crore must quote at least a 4-digit HSN code (a 2-digit code is allowed for B2C supplies below the threshold), while those above ₹5 crore must quote a 6-digit code. Many businesses use the full 8-digit code to be safe. SAC codes for services follow the same digit logic.
