Chapter 69 covers ceramic products — bricks, tiles, sanitaryware, tableware and other ceramic articles. Tile dealers, sanitaryware suppliers and construction-material traders bill using these codes.
Ceramic tiles and sanitaryware generally attract 18% GST, while certain bricks and earthen products fall at lower rates. Because building bricks and glazed tiles sit in the same chapter but are taxed differently, confirm the exact code in the table.

What is the GST rate on ceramic tiles?
Glazed ceramic tiles and sanitaryware are generally taxed at 18%. Confirm the current figure from the rate column for your product.
Are building bricks taxed at a lower rate?
Certain building bricks and earthen products attract a lower rate than glazed tiles. Check the specific entry, as treatment varies by brick type.
How many digits of the HSN code do I need to put on my invoice?
It depends on your aggregate annual turnover. Businesses with turnover up to ₹5 crore must quote at least a 4-digit HSN code (a 2-digit code is allowed for B2C supplies below the threshold), while those above ₹5 crore must quote a 6-digit code. Many businesses use the full 8-digit code to be safe. SAC codes for services follow the same digit logic.
